Located in Tuscany, Italy - Villa N is the work of Matassoni Architects. It was created as a single family villa for a fashion manager and his family.
The house's living space was organized along the heart of the home, which is the central courtyard. This structure allows a visual reciprocity between different environments with different mixed spaces and functions.
The contrast between the private and the opened areas is emphasized by the centrifugal projections of several architectural elements that have been stretched towards the extreme edges of the available areas.
The client's preference for straight corners and large surfaces made the architects come up with original ideas: strategic dislocation of volumes, use of suspended masses and shifted surfaces.
The construction and decoration of the building continued in the same original way. The white color was chosen for both the interior and the facade of the house. It contributes to the minimalist style of the entire house. The number of the used construction materials was also drastically reduced.
The bright white plaster was used for all the vertical surfaces in combination with metal panels and stone slabs. For the external floorings, the main used material was the floating wood.
The living area on the ground floor is completed by the sleeping area located on the ground floor. The private atmosphere resides in the linear slots cut in the roof which redirects the natural light and offers direct contact with the sky.
Inside the house, the technological solutions have been reduced as much as possible and replaced with radiant panels and solar systems. The purpose was to "to use "low-tech" solutions, when possible, which could ensure the internal microclimate control in a passive way through the natural flow of fresh air from the green external areas" the architects said.
