This stylish contemporary residence completed by Creative Arch Architecture is located in a natural paradise on the coastal North Shore of Auckland. The house incorporates three distinct living spaces with a major use of natural materials from the local natural surroundings.
The three-story house is invaded by natural light, and the modernist design comes as a response to the narrow site. Moreover, the master bedroom on the upper level maximises beautiful views of Rangitoto and Hauraki Gulf.
The three living spaces were separated into a rumpus area, the main living with pool access, and a private living space off the master bedroom. In addition, multiple outdoor spaces have been created to further maximise the usability of the home.
"Our approach was to design a house unique to the area with an emphasis on the use of natural materials.
This is a light-filled, three-story, cedar, and schist clad home with a relatively compact footprint.
A strong blade wall feature in schist crosses the internal/external threshold and serves to create texture and separate the living spaces", the architects explained.
The approach of the architects was to design a house that was unique to the North Shore area, with an emphasis on the use of natural materials.
The final materials selected for the decor and the construction of the house included dark joinery, vertical dark stained cedar, contrasting white bagged brick, earthy stone features and dark metal cladding. For an industrial look, the exposed steel was painted in black.
