The `Black Box House` is a great example of Nordic minimalism designed by PAO studio architects. The contemporary modern family dwelling is located in one of the most prestigious neighborhoods in Vilnius and covers almost 0.25 acres of land.
The particular beauty of this neighborhood comes from the natural context in which pine forests reveal amazing city panoramas, colorful landscape views, and impressive sunsets.
The orientation of the house is also impressive: the river is flowing in the south-east while the rest of the neighborhood can be admired in the northern-east side.
The four-member family that lives inside the house has a special attitude and perception about the architecture and minimalist design.
"In this case, our design team were defined to design significantly simple shapes integrated into the natural layout, with focus on the client's budget and convenient functionality only. Planning the structure of this project was not so tricky since the existing landscape and property situation was not very challenging in terms of design issues", the architects explained.
Therefore, the residence has been designed as a 30x10 irregular rectangle. Massive outside skylights for vegetation areas have been installed and micro-green zones were planned on the northern side in order to ensure visual privacy from the street.
On the other side, the living area, including the kitchen and the office studio are flooded with sunlight from the massive panoramic openings on the southern side which also ensure an impressive view of the river.
